Clinical Governance, Quality, and Safety at St John of God Hospital and St Joseph’s Centre
Clinical governance is defined as “The framework through which healthcare organisations are accountable for continuously improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care can flourish.”
The Board of Directors at St John of God Hospital CLG is fully committed to fulfilling its duties and obligations to patients, residents, day attendees, staff, and all who engage with our services.
To oversee clinical governance, the Board has established a Sub-Committee for Clinical Governance, Quality & Safety (CGQS), chaired by Prof. Kieran Murphy. The Committee meets at least six times a year, setting key performance indicators (KPIs) for services and monitoring work programmes to ensure the highest quality standards. The Committee also reviews reports from regulatory bodies that inspect both St John of God Hospital and St Joseph’s Centre.
The Clinical Governance, Quality & Safety Executive Committee, chaired by the Chief Executive, meets monthly to drive quality and safety initiatives across the organisation. The Executive Committee consists of key leadership members, including:
Chief Executive
Clinical Director
Director of Nursing (St John of God Hospital)
Director of Nursing (St Joseph’s Centre)
Head of Operations
Heads of Clinical Departments (rotating membership)
Healthcare Risk Officer
Nursing Practice Development Manager
Chairperson of the Risk Committee
Chairperson of the Health & Safety Committee
Chairperson of the Compliance & Continuous Quality Improvement (CCQI) Committee
Chairperson of the Consumer Council & Advocacy Committee
Chairperson of the Patient Satisfaction & Complaints Committee

This structure ensures comprehensive oversight of clinical governance, quality, and safety, supporting the continuous enhancement of care standards across both the Hospital and St Joseph's Centre.
