About Mental Health First Aid Ireland (MHFAI)
Mental Health First Aid Ireland (MHFAI) is committed to empowering individuals with the skills and confidence to support those experiencing mental health challenges. As part of a globally recognised training program, MHFAI provides evidence-based courses designed to help people identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health issues in their communities. Our goal is to reduce stigma, increase mental health literacy, and create a network of individuals who can offer immediate support to those in need.
By equipping participants with the knowledge to approach someone in crisis and guide them towards appropriate professional help, MHFAI fosters a compassionate and proactive approach to mental health care. We believe that early intervention can make a lasting impact, helping individuals on their journey to recovery.
About Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA)
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA), a key initiative within MHFAI, focuses specifically on the mental health needs of young people aged 12-18. This training program is designed for adults who work with or support young people, such as parents, teachers, youth workers, and coaches, offering them the tools to recognise early signs of mental health issues and provide effective, immediate assistance.
YMHFA training covers common mental health challenges facing adolescents, including anxiety, depression, self-harm, and eating disorders. It also equips participants with strategies to have supportive conversations with young people and connect them with the right professional resources. Co-developed with input from mental health professionals and youth advocates, YMHFA Ireland ensures that young people receive the care and support they need at critical moments in their lives.
Through this specialised training, YMHFA contributes to the creation of a more informed and compassionate society, one where young people feel supported and mental health is prioritised as much as physical health.
