FAQ

Please refer to our current visiting hours in the Visitor Information section of this website.

You are asked to bring several changes of comfortable, casual clothing, sleep wear and toiletries including towels and, if desired, gym clothes and runners.

You are requested to bring your current medications in with you, to ensure that all medication are prescribed correctly. This can then be stored in pharmacy for 28 days or requested to be returned by nursing staff, during this time, to send home with a family member.

Outpatient assessment is approximately one hour.

The psychiatrist will ask you about any difficulties you have been experiencing.  He or she will also try to build up a picture of what has been going on for you over your life.  Some of the questions will be about early experiences and adolescence.  Other questions will be about your medical history and any family history of illness.  The purpose of the questions is to come to an understanding of your difficulties and what treatment can be offered.  At the end of the assessment you can discuss any treatment options.

Usually we would ask that patients are accompanied by a parent/partner or someone else they can trust. It is helpful to have a second person in attendance to ensure the information given at the assessment is fully understood. If you would prefer not to be accompanied that is no problem and the assessment can still go ahead.

The Hospital grounds are extensive and include a pitch and putt course, a full size tennis court and football pitch to the rear, all of which are available to patients. The supervised gym is open to patients at specific times of the day, as is the hairdressing salon.

Mass is celebrated in the hospital Chapel daily and is also available on all inpatient suites through local cable TV. A multi-faith prayer room is available for the use of all patients, families and staff.

There are many seating areas for quiet time throughout our well-maintained gardens and parkland areas. Our fountain courtyard is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the sunshine, or chat to other residents and friends.

The first step in the referral process is to attend your GP. Your GP will then send a letter to the psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will review the letter and an appointment will be sent out to you in the post. Sometimes the team secretary will contact you by telephone with the appointment details. That’s why it is very important to ensure that your contact information is correct.

The clinic tries to keep wait times as short as possible. It is usually about 2-4 weeks but can vary. The secretary will let you and your GP know the time by letter or by phone when the appointment is within a few days of receipt of the letter.
